Our allotment site is self-managed. Managed by Walkers Lane Allotment Association on behalf of St Helens Council. You can apply for an allotment by contacting the association secretary, Phil Howell, using the following methods:

How much is the allotment rent?

Firstly there are Additional Fees
  • There will be a one-off charge of £100.00 for you to enter into a tenancy agreement with the council.
  •  The site keys require a £20 refundable deposit to be paid to Walkers Lane Allotment Association. (Refundable at the end of your tenancy on the production of a receipt.)
  • Membership to the allotment association that provide certain facilities on site along with insurance, social events and affiliation to the National Society of Allotment & Leisure Gardeners costs £10 per year and is paid directly to the allotment association. 
  • As of 1 April 2023, the Council's increased the rent for a plot to £0.45 per square metre.
  • Plots vary in size; an average plot works out between £90 and £140 per annum
At the moment there is a waiting list but don't be put off as there are a whole host of reasons why people vacate plots and not all sites have as many on the waiting list.
